Chrome Remote Desktop is a free remote desktop software made by Google that is actually an extension that runs with the Chrome web browser.

Like many other programs on the market, Chrome Remote Desktop will allow you to remotely access your own computer from a different computer, or you can perform support on another computer. Chrome remote desktop will run on Windows computers, Macs, and Linux Operating Systems. You can also run it from an android phone or tablet when you install the app through Google Play. iTunes also has the app for download for iOS devices.

You must have a Google account to utilize the software. It is simple to set up a Gmail account, and it only takes a few minutes. You will have to do this before being able to use the program. You will be prompted for these credentials when signing into the program from the Chrome browser.

You can use Chrome Remote Desktop is two different ways: spontaneous support and unattended access. For spontaneous support, the connection is temporary. A code will be generated that can only be used one time. So, if you need to connect to the machine again, a new code will have to be generated.

If you plan to use the unattended access feature, you will need to set up a pin on the target computer to access it. Once that is set up, when you use your Google credentials, you will see the computer that you want to have uninterrupted access to.

The best feature of Chrome Remote Desktop is that it runs completely in the Chrome browser, and it is not strapped by using a certain operating system. However, being browser based also has its limitations. It does not have the tools that a complete remote access software program has. There is no file transfer or chat mechanism built in.
